Instead of us feeding into a commercially-designed holiday and us women looking for our fluffy little validations a couple of times a year (valentine’s day, mother’s day, christmas) – why don’t we all celebrate “I am grateful I woke up today day.”
Just think, each and every day you would open your eyes with gratitude and appreciation. Those simple, little emotions would filter all through your body and be transmitted directly to everyone that you come in contact with – including your Mother, your Father, your Sisters, Brothers, friends, co-workers – even the homeless guy, or the dog on the street. Then, the need to set aside certain days to celebrate and honor certain people would not exist. We would honor them and ourselves through life every day.
I firmly do not believe in falling in line with the herd who does as they are told. Celebrate this holiday and go spend your money in order to celebrate it! These days are designed for fools who are guided into this responsive behavior much like Pavlov’s dog salivated at the sound of a bell. We also continue to feed the corporate coffers – that money machine that operates 24 hours a day concocting new ways to get us to give our money to it. Needless holidays is a good pay day for those who rely on fools.
My mother knows that I love her and appreciate her. I don’t need a special day in order to tell her these things and to give her needless gifts.
For any holiday that gift-giving is “required,” her response to “what do you want for ….?” would always be “Nothing. I just want everyone to be happy.”
There. That is the greatest gift that anyone could ever give – joy! Joy and love go hand-in-hand. All my mother ever wanted was for us to be happy. That is all I want for my children and for all others. I want us all to be happy. I don’t want gifts, flowers, a special day, chocolate, candy, to be taken out for dinner or lunch… I genuinely from my heart want us all to be happy – and not just on one or two days out of the year.
How about if we take the money that we would all spend on this “mother’s day thing,” put it together and build a school, or buy farming tools in places where they don’t have any and could use some to grow their own food? Or restore buildings everywhere that will provide homeless with a place to stay and help so they can learn how to or begin to help themselves? How about some of those ideas?
Don’t focus on feeding our egos, feed our lives.
So rise above the shadows that keep us blinded to the reality of our lives and our existence on this planet. The indigenous people lived in ways to respect the earth including animal and plant life as well as each other. As long as people were contributing positively to the community, they were respected. Let’s go back to those times of spiritual living and return to having a sense of community and balance with all things.
Feed your spirit, not your ego.
And, by the way – Happy I Am grateful I Woke Up Day to you!
